Links
There are hundreds, if not thousands of chess websites on the internet; here are my (Phil's) personal selection of the most important/ most useful resources on the net:
| Leicestershire & Rutland Chess Association |
The website for the county chess - league tables, fixtures, clubs, gradings, etc. Frequently updated. |
| Chessbase.com |
A magazine for the major events in the world of chess - it's a good way to keep up-to-date with what's going on; with no hesitation to add pictures of young attractive women if possible. |
| Chesscafe.com | A very popular resource provided by the chess philanthropist Hanon Russell (subsidized by book shop) with monthly articles from many contributors on all matters chess. I always make a point of reading Gary Lane's Opening Lanes column and The Kibitzer by Tim Harding, but the best for me (and, I guess, for any other player up to about 150 grade) is Novice Nook by Dan Heisman. All high quality, and entirely free. |
| New In Chess Online Games Database |
You don't need Chessbase database and Mega DVD software to research your opening theory ; here is an online version that is free and updated weekly. It uses the NIC classification rather than Informator which is more relevant and much more detailed. There is a tree of variations which is easy to use with result statistics with the ability to download the relevant games. Fantastic. |
| John Saunders' Blog | A sometimes acerbic take on British chess by the editor of the BCM magazine. |
| Jovanka Houska's website | The website for Britain's only professional woman chess player. |
