This year’s Christmas doubles blitz event threw up some challenges for the organisers with a record number of entries that was unhelpfully an odd number. 11 pairs were randomly chosen, plus a team of three which made things even more chaotic than usual. Just as we were ready to start, the computer pairing software decided to down tools, so we had to switch to a manual approach, based on a modified round-robin (the “Christmas robin” system). The winners of the event, with an impressive 5/5 were Sathsara Dissanayake and Madhav Eradi. In joint second on 4/5 were Lee Robinson and David Marshall, plus the trio of Fahim Nasiri, Peter Mottram-Epson and Harley Hudson. An enjoyable evening was rounded off with a trip to the Cuisine of India.
