About Us
Our club night is Thursday, from around 7.15pm to 10.30pm, and we are open all year round.
We have 5 teams in the Leicestershire league which takes place between September and May. We also compete in summer competitions.We currently have around 25 adults and 10 juniors of a wide range of strengths

New members
Players of all ages and strengths are very welcome at the club. You can come down for all or part of the evening and there will usually be a few players around not playing in league matches who will give you a casual game.
If there are league matches on then you will need to be quiet. If we have 2 home matches on then space for casual games is rather limited. To see what is going on, look at the ‘Coming soon’ section on the home page.
League chess matches start at 7.30pm and can last the whole evening. We play half of our league matches at Wigston, and the other half at the opposition’s venue at various locations in Leicestershire. Some opponents play their home matches on a Tuesday or Wednesday.
Membership
You can come to the club a few times to see if you like it before joining.The subscriptions for the year starting 1st June 2026 are £60.For juniors, students and, on request, those on low incomes, the rate is £20.
If you are intending to play in league matches you will also need to take out ECF membership at at least bronze level. This is currently £22 for adults. For juniors the rate is £9 except for the first year which is free. Full details are available from the ECF website.
Matches
If you would like to play competitive league matches then one of the captains will fit you into a team appropriate to your playing strength. Our current members ratings range from around 1200 to 2200 so there is a wide range of abilities.
There are 4 players in a team (apart from divisions 1 and 2 which are played over 5 boards), and matches are about once a fortnight.

We play in the 1st floor room at the Wigston Liberal Club, which is situated on the corner of Bull Head Street and Kelmarsh Avenue, Wigston, Leicester, LE18 1PA
There is ample free parking.
